CG Family and Friends,
The elders would like you to begin preparing for holy communion this coming Sunday, March 29. This will be quite unique because everyone will be taking communion in their own locations while we worship together via Zoom.
Here is what you need to prepare:
BREAD
Designate some bread ahead of time that will be used exclusively for holy communion. This bread will represent the broken body of Jesus Christ. Historically, CG uses unleavened (Kosher) bread/crackers. You may use any bread or crackers you have on hand. If you do not have bread or crackers, you may use any food item you have on hand.
FRUIT OF THE VINE
Designate a beverage ahead of time that will be used exclusively for holy communion. Historically, CG uses 100% grape juice. You may use any "fruit of the vine" beverage you have on hand. If you do not have grape juice or wine, you may use any beverage (including water) you have on hand.
The Elders' Heart
We believe that God knows and recognizes our intent -- to celebrate unity with the Body of Christ across space and time. Remembering this unity, in relationship to the sacrifice of Christ (Passover), is paramount over the actual physical elements of holy communion. This is our desire as we ask you to prepare in advance for the Lord's Supper.
During the rest of this week, use your holy communion elements to visually prepare your hearts and minds for the Lord's Day. Perhaps a prayer like this one from Crosswalk can assist. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out and ask.
